Since I have a paper due...

...I figured I'd give you a little update.

Today was my last GB class. I nearly cried.

I finally finished War and Peace Sunday (Yay!!). I think it took me around 9 months to read it, lol.

I have a piano recital coming up that I'm starting to freak out about. I don't feel ready for it at all.

Oh, and for those of you who don't know I'll be going to LaGrange College in the fall. I'm not very excited, but I don't know if I would be excited about going anywhere.  I'll probably like it once I get there. Right now I'm planning to major in English.

Men are the merriest when they are far from home - William Shakespeare

Me and Abby on the plane to Paris.

Here is the street our hotel was on.

The first day there we went to the Arc de Triomphe.
We climbed 200 stairs to the top.

The view was awesome and it was from here that we saw the Eiffel Tower for the first time.
Thursday we went to Notre-Dame.

We got to go all the way to the very top where we were able to see the gargoyles up close and see the great bell.

That night we went to the Eiffel Tower. It was incredibly windy at the top. Taryn and I stayed close to the wall while Abby hung out over the edge to take pictures.

Friday we went to the opera house Phantom of the Opera was based on. The rooms were absolutley goreous. It was one of my favorite things we did.

Then we went to Sacre Coeur...

...and the artist's quarter.

Saturday we went to the Musee Rodin. My favorite sculpture was "The Gates of Hell" based on Dante's Divine Comedy.

Sunday we went to Versailles. Almost everything closes on Sunday so we weren't able to get our regular morning coffee.

Here we are at the gardens of the palace.

Monday we went to the Eiffel Tower to take pictures.

We spent the rest of the day at the Louvre.

We were sooo tired by the end of the day.

The last day was really layed back. We went to this lovely park,

visited Victor Hugo's house, and shopped.

The End

Cora:I didn't see Mr. Hartman there. I looked at list of interviewers and he wasn't on there. I'm sure he was around somewhere though. ;) I was incredibly freaked out!

Katie Beth: Yep! I'm leaving Tuesday and I'll get back in Wednesday night.

Nicole: Thanks! I'll be sure to write about it and post pictures.

So yes, I'm leaving for Paris Tuesday. If anyone from my Great Books class knows how to record audio from class and could send it to me, that would be awesome. I hate that I'm missing the last portion on Dante. But at least it's because I'm doing something cool. :)

I did get a good scholarship from the Scholar's Weekend thing. It's enough for me to go there, but I would have to live off campus.
Right now it's looks like I will be going to LaGrange because it's the most affordable. I'm not sure what I think about it. It some ways it's the more comfortable school. I'm familiar with the campus and I know a pretty good bit of people that go there. It seems like most of the seniors I know are seriously considering going there. But I never thought I would end up going to LaGrange. I sort of wish I could go somewhere on my own, where I wouldn't know anybody. But I don't know, I might actually hate that. I guess whatever happens will be for the best.

Well, that's all for now guys...

Well, as Caitlin pointed out I guess it's time to follow up with an update.

Well, the worst of the college stuff is over. Saturday I had an scholarship thing at LaGrange College. To compete for scholarships we had to write a paper, interview twice and participate in two discussions. The paper we had to do was horrible. The topic was "pretend someone hates you for something you can't change, like your skin color, and write about how you would respond to this situation". It kind of caught me off guard since I'm not used to writing about racism and stuff like that. The whole gist of my argument just seemed fluffy and weak. The group discussions were bad too. There were like 20 kids in each group and I only spoke twice, so I didn't feel like I really got noticed. I guess writing under pressure and participating is large discussions just aren't my thing. But, I did the best I could which is all I can do. The interviews went the best. I feel pretty good about those. I know one of the ladies that interviewed me so that was good. The last guy that interviewed me was interesting. All the other interviewers would ask me things from this paper they were given, but he would come up with off the wall things like "how much do you plan to drink in college?"  But then he was like, oh never mind, I probably shouldn't ask you that. LOL. Anyway, it will be interesting to see what kind of offer they give me.

I leave for Paris in two weeks and that's kind of freaking me out. I need to find clothes and stuff, practice French and decide what I want to see.
